Google’s AI video tool Flow just got a major redesign — and it’s no longer just a video generator.

The update, announced in late February 2026, brings Google’s two popular image generation experiments — Whisk and ImageFX — directly into the Flow workspace. The result is a single, unified creative studio where you can generate images, edit them, and animate them into video without switching tools.

What’s New in Flow

The redesigned Flow introduces several powerful new features for creators:

  • Unified image + video workspace
    — generate, edit and animate in one place
  • Scene extension — continue the
story by generating what happens next in any clip
  • Object addition — add new elements
to existing scenes using text prompts
  • Background removal — clean up
shots by instantly removing unwanted subjects
  • Camera controls — direct precise
    movements like pans and zooms

Why This Matters

Until now, creators had to jump between multiple Google tools to go from idea to final video. Whisk for image experiments, ImageFX for photorealistic images, and Flow for video generation. The new unified interface eliminates that friction.

With over 1.5 billion creations already on the platform, Google is clearly doubling down on Flow as its primary consumer AI creative product — competing directly with Runway, Midjourney and Adobe Firefly.

How to Get Started

Flow is available at flow.google and offers a free tier for getting started. The tool is particularly strong for creators building mood boards, short films, product campaigns and social media content.

If you haven’t tried it yet, now is the time — the merge of Whisk and ImageFX makes it significantly more capable than the version most people tested last year.
